The July Pysanka Festival showcases Ukrainian culture in Alberta.
Vegreville, Alberta, Canada is a town located some Century kilometres east of Alberta's capital city, Edmonton, and sits roughly at a geographic center of the province. A primary economic base of the town is agricultural.
The big percentage of Vegreville's people is of Ukrainian descent. The world's big pysanka (Ukrainian Easter egg) was created to commemorate the Hundredth Day of remembrance of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1974, and to celebrate Vegreville's ethnic heritage.
